Phyllis Martin Evans Obituary (1925 - 2015)

Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, March 21, 2015. Phyllis was born Sept. 11, 1925 to Thomas and Beatrice Erickson Martin in Murray, UT. She married her sweetheart, Arthur M. Evans, Nov. 14, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She retired from Mountain Bell. Phyllis served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Nauvoo, IL in 1982-83 with her husband. She served in many church callings; primary, cub scouts, Young Women, and Relief Society. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, fishing, and oil painting. Many have been blessed by her service. Phyllis had a strong testimony and love of the Savior. She is survived by her children; Arthur M. Evans, Jr. (Kathleen), Joan Healey (Jim), John T. (Sreyveth), Cathy Durtschi (Steve), and Martin O. (Kathleen); 18 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren; In-laws, Orson's wife, Gayle; Evans In-laws; Walter's wife Olive, Genevieve, Leland, Lena Mae, and Lona Lou. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings; Elmo, Wallace, Erma Troop, Margaret Hanson, and Orson. Phyllis was a longtime member of Murray 3rd Ward and most recently Val Verda 7th Branch. Sincere appreciation to Dr. Peter Sundwall, the many loving caregivers at LCC of Bountiful, and dear roommate, Ida. A viewing will be held Thurs., March 26, 2015, from 6-8 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street. Funeral services will be Fri., March 27, 2015, at 11 am with a viewing prior to services 10-10:45 am at the Murray 3rd Ward, 160 E. 4600 S. Interment Murray City Cemetery.
