Que Curtis

–

Cottonwood Heights, Utah

With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Que M Curtis, our sweet husband, father, and brother. Que passed away on October 12, 2024, after suffering a heart attack. He leaves behind his dear wife of 57 years, Barbara Heiner Curtis; his sons, Terry (Jen) Lasater and Cody (Ashley) Curtis; and his twin brother, Coy Curtis; as well as his beloved grandchildren (Abigail, Cameron, and Colin in Murray, Amanda, Mike, Stephany, and Nikki in TX, Shaylee and Indee in Ogden). He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Maxine Curtis, his brothers McLloyd and Brooks Curtis, and his grandsons, Troy Lasater and Caleb Curtis.

Que was born on September 17, 1938, in Salina, Utah. Raised in Aurora, Utah, Que loved to tell stories about working on his family’s farm, and attending North Sevier High School, where he graduated in 1956. He attended Utah State University for one year, and was then drafted into the US Army in 1961, where he served for 2 years. Que met Barbara Heiner Lasater and her son Terry, while living down the street from them in the Sugarhouse area. Que and Barbara were married in 1967, and moved to Cottonwood Heights. They lived a wonderful life together raising their two sons, attending game groups and dinner groups, traveling, and serving their neighbors. They loved playing table games and their morning round of Yahtzee was a daily ritual.

Que was inseparable in life from his dear twin brother, Coy. From grade school to college and the army, from snowmobiling and cabin trips, to serving in the Salt Lake Temple, Que and Coy shared many life experiences together and were the best of friends.

Que was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in various callings, including Bishop of the Butler 11th Ward in the Butler West Stake. He and Barbara served as senior missionaries in the Salt Lake City mission. Que also enjoyed serving in the Salt Lake Temple Baptistry with his brother Coy for nearly a decade after their retirement. Que’s example of humble faith and unwavering commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ has left a lasting legacy for his family and loved ones.

Que's dedication was not only evident in his personal life but also in his professional career. He was a longtime buyer in the steel fabrication industry, most notably with OJ Industries in Salt Lake City, UT. He retired in 2005 after 40 years of service marked by integrity, hard work, and a knack for nurturing strong relationships.

“Pa Que” loved participating in and watching sports. He was an avid fan of the Jazz and the Cougars. He especially loved supporting his sons in their athletic and recreational pursuits, and in later years watching his grandchildren compete athletically. He taught his children and grandchildren how to work hard and have fun.

While measuring 5’2’’ in height, Que may have been on the shorter side in a lineup, but he measured in at the top of the scale with the size of his heart. As Samuel 16:7 says, “Look not…on the height of his stature; for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” Que showed us all how to love and serve others without judgment, exemplifying the pure love of Christ. He would do anything for anyone in need, always seeking the welfare of others above his own. Que's memory will forever live on in the hearts of his loved ones and those who had the pleasure to know him. We love you “Pa Que”!

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19th at 11:00 am at the Butler West Stake Center on 1845 East 7200 South. A public viewing will take place prior to the funeral, beginning at 9:30 am. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 E 10600 S.
