Richard Lynn Hampton of Kearns, UT passed away on August 12th 2023 following a valiant battle with pulmonary cancer.\n\nRichard was born on July 8th 1948 to Richard and Lila Hampton in Murray, UT.\n\nFollowing his High School graduation Richard enlisted in the Army National Guard where his interminable character and commitment to duty led to his selection as an Officer Candidate. Upon entering the officer corps his dedication to service and leadership culminated in his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel.\n\nIn 1975 Richard joined the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Department. The highlight of his time as a Sheriff was his opportunity to serve as the Cottonwood High School Sheriff and Youth (SAY) Officer from 1985-2003.\n\nHe was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Richard, ever eager to serve, was blessed to labor for the lord in multiple callings including ordinance worker at the Jordan River Temple and as an Inner City missionary in West Valley City with his wonderful wife.\n\nRichard met his eternal companion Debbie and was sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on January 24th 1975. Richard and Debbie went on to have eight children, Cindy, Stacie (Bryan), Angie (Leland), Christie, Ricky Jr. (Tiffany), Seth (Annette), Sammie (Jamie), and Jonathan (Jasmine). \n\nRichard joins his parents, Richard and Lila Hampton, on the other side of the veil and is survived by his siblings Linda, Don, and Barb, his wife, children, and 14 grandchildren.\n\nViewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe on August 16th 2023 6:00pm-8:00pm. 4760 S. State Street Murray, UT 84107. A short viewing will be held 10:00am-10:45am August 17th which will then be followed by funeral services 11:00am-12:00pm at Kearns 1st Ward 4575 W. 5415 S. Kearns, UT 84118. Interment will follow at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park. 17111 1700 West, Bluffdale, Utah 84065.
