Robert Bunting

–

Draper, Utah

Robert Junior Bunting, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, joined his eternal companion LaMoyne in heaven on January 16, 2025 at the age of 94. Robert was born on April 28, 1930, in St. George, Utah, to Robert Owen and Vearl Lucille Grose Bunting. He met his wife on a blind date just before serving his LDS mission in the Northern States. On August 8th 1952, Robert and LaMoyne were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. Shortly after marriage, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War in 1953 for 15 months. Robert and LaMoyne raised their four daughters in Midvale, where they resided for over 50 years. Robert retired as an Engineering Specialist in the Telecommunications industry, working in the field for 36 years.

His life was filled with humor, always looking for ways to make someone laugh. He was good at teasing his sisters, his wife and daughters, even to the day before his passing. Robert will be remembered for his unwavering love for his Church and family. He was a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers. He loved his time serving in the Jordan River Temple. Later in life he served a mission with his wife in Peoria, Illinois being assigned to the Nauvoo Visitors Center. Robert enjoyed spending his time woodworking, traveling, going to schools, churches, and family reunions to share his love of pioneer games, volunteering at This is the Place Heritage Park conducting tours of Brigham Young’s home, gardening in their own beautiful backyard, making and eating lots of homemade ice cream, and researching his family heritage. Robert learned to work hard at a very early age. He acquired many different skills from his many different jobs. No wonder he could build, repair, or create anything. His talents have blessed his family and friends throughout these many years.

Robert is survived by his daughters, Cherie (Rex) Buchanan, Paula (Russell) Morley, Shanna (Steve) Slatter and Denise (Perry) Maw; 15 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren; LaMoyne’s brothers Paul (Phyllis) Ashton, Lee (Linda) Ashton. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Vearl Bunting; his wife, LaMoyne; sons-in-law, Dennis Barney and Rex Buchanan; granddaughter, McKenzie Morley; sisters Verl (Joe) Scheiss, Sina (Dale) Ahlberg and Barbara (Powell) Arwood.

Robert’s caregivers were exceptionally supportive and loving as his needs increased. Thank you to Keira, Lara, and Sara for your kindness and expertise.
