Robert Henry McNeal, age 97, of Salt Lake City passed away Sunday, December 14, 2008.\n\nHe was born October 4, 1911 at Meridian, Idaho to Robert Henry McNeal Sr. and Edna Mable Hunt. He taught grade school math in Idaho for 8 years, and then spent 32 years in the lumber business in Idaho and in central Oregon, where he excelled in lumber sales and as a plant superintendent. He was certified by the Western Pine Association as a Master Grader, and also received the Silver Beaver award from the Boy Scouts of America for his long-term service as troop and district chairman.\n\nBob married Maude Hall in 1936 at Rigby, Idaho. They had 3 children: Brian (Dee Ann), Pleasant Grove; Steven (LaDawn), Salt Lake City; and Marilyn (Gary) Fergus, Oregon City, Oregon. They have 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Following Maude’s death in 1990, Bob married Ora May Bowman and eventually moved from Rigby to Salt Lake City, where he much enjoyed the association with her extended family as well as his. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Jimmy and Roy, and his sister Edna.\n\nBob was an avid fisherman and sports fan, and loved to travel and garden. He enjoyed playing a variety of games with family and friends. Following his retirement, he and Maude (and then Ora May) spent the winters at Quartzsite, Arizona where he loved to collect and polish rocks, work with ironwood, and explore the southwestern desert.\n\nBob joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1975, and was sealed to Maude in the Mesa, Arizona temple in 1977. He and Maude each achieved an annual goal of 100 temple ordinances for many years, and he and Ora May participated for many more years in weekly sealing sessions at the Jordan River Temple.\n\nFuneral services will be held Thursday, December 18, 2008, 11 a.m. at the Winder 12th Ward chapel, 4350 S 1100 East, Bishop Marc Ferguson presiding. Family and friends may call Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, and Thursday at the church 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at Little Butte Cemetery, Rigby, Idaho.
