Rodney Park Sr.

–

Salt Lake City, Utah

Rodney Burt Park Sr., an exceptional family man, passed on April 9, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and more— he was a friend to us all.

Rodney was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 12, 1949 to Burt Park and Darlene Carsey. He was remarkably proud to have graduated from Granite High School in 1967, so much he continued to sing his alma mater to his grandchildren.

After a lively four week courtship, Rodney married the love of his life Karen Kinder on June 13, 1969. With this love, they shared four children: Jodi (Kenny) Olsen, Rodney Jr. (Lisa) Park, Brandon (Jen) Park, Brittany (Ryan) Patterson.

Rodney and Karen went on to have 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, a family that meant the world to him.

The definition of a hard worker, our father was a man of many trades. Rodney was a dedicated employee at Kennecott Copper Mine for over twenty years, and after retiring, started his own construction company. He was a fighter throughout his life, surviving a traumatic brain trauma in 1992 when a work injury lodged a nail into his brain.

Despite personal struggles, Rodney kept his childlike humor, lifting up others with his silly demeanor and lively character.

At 71 years old, Rodney was diagnosed with cancer and fought the illness for three long years. He passed peacefully at the age of 74 surrounded by loved ones in Eagle Mountain, Utah.

Rodney is survived by his loving wife and children, sisters Sandra (Phil - deceased) Dahl, Charlene (Allen) Stewart and many nieces and nephews that adored their Uncle Rodney.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Claudia Hamilton, mother and father in-law Alma and Katherine Kinder, brothers in-law Almie and Ronnie Kinder, and sister in-law Katherine “Tiny” Maxfield.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 18th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary located at 1007 W South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan UT 84095.
