He especially loved camping and rockhounding in southern Utah and northern Arizona with family and his best friend since childhood, George Poetzl and his family. He was quite the chef with Cowboy dinners, but his specialty was chile verde and his favorite dessert was always chocolate pie. Ron enjoyed a good book. He was easy going, quiet and a good listener- a man of few words, except when driving! He always had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's school programs and sports activities. His family meant the world to him. He was so loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.\n\nRon is survived by his wife Kim, son Kristoffer (Amber), grandchildren Lacee, Seth, Brayden and Zayne; great-grandson Amari and great-granddaughter on the way; brother Earl and sister Vonie Gunnison; in-laws Shirley (Dennis) Iverson, Gordon (Vicky) Jones, Debra (Gary) Healy, Ricy Jones and many nieces and nephews.\n\nRon is preceded in death by his parents, brother Raymond and sister Lois Peterson.\n\nA Celebration of life will take place at a later time.\n\nThe family would like to express their gratitude to the kind and caring doctors and staff at the VA Medical Center, especially Mary his diabetes nurse for over 20 years, South Mountain Dialysis and the wonderful paramedics with the West Jordan Fire Dept who saved Ron's life numerous times.\n\nIn lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Humane Society of Utah (utahhumane.org) to help animals in need or to a charitable organization to help Veterans in need.
