Roy Barnes

Roy Jay Barnes passed peacefully away, at the age of 83 on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at his home in Murray, Utah. He was born March 19, 1943, in Glendale, CA, to Roy Kenneth and Glenna Delight Barnes. Roy was the third of four children. He graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1961 and worked odd jobs like delivering newspapers for the Orange County Register before he was drafted into the Army. He served in Germany for two years working with Hawk missile batteries. Following his service, he served in the National Guard.

After his enlistment, Roy met Susan Elizabeth Rochambeau. They were married on November 21, 1970, and soon welcomed three beautiful children, Michael, Rebecca, and Cecilia. Their sweet little family lived in Fountain Valley, CA, and Manti, UT. He has been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since his baptism in 1980. Shortly after their divorce, Roy returned to Garden Grove, CA, where he worked as a welder.

He later met Sharan Flint Butin, and they were married on September 5, 1992. They lived in Southern and Northern California before settling in Utah. Roy and Sharan served three missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: Buenos Aires, Argentina; Salt Lake City, UT; and Mexico City, Mexico.

Roy was passionate about guns, old cars, the Constitution, the Lord, Missionary work, preparedness and healthy living. He was always serving his family and others.

He is survived by his wife Sharan; three children, Michael Barnes, Rebecca Barnes, and Cecilia Barnes; two stepchildren, Kenneth Butin and Jennifer Tayco; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his brother, Wayne Barnes; and his sister, Cheryl Emmons. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, Claude Barnes.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 10:30am at LDS Chapel (160 East 4600 South, Murray), with a viewing from 9:30am - 10:15am.
