Royce Doyle Hedgepeth Obituary (1935 - 2016)

Royce Doyle Hedgepeth was born August 9, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Edward Brown Hedgepeth and Gladys Viola Mann. He was the youngest of their three children. He passed away July 18, 2016 at his home in South Jordan, Utah, surrounded by his loved ones, after a courageous battle with dementia and congestive heart failure. Doyle married his high school sweetheart, Ann Bierman, in the Salt Lake Temple on October 3, 1958, and they were the dearest couple, and the loving and devoted parents of five children. He was a joyful and loving person and a friend to all. Doyle graduated from South High and was a true-blue Cub to the end. He was a gifted athlete who loved tennis, golf, skiing, skating, and baseball. He and his South High teammates played baseball and softball together into their seventies, and won numerous tournaments, including the gold medal at the 1999 World Senior Games. Doyle was also a cheerleader at South High and the University of Utah. Doyle loved his country, and served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 12 years. He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. He worked for the family business, Equalizer Trailer Hitch, for many years. Later in life he ran his own printing shop and worked as a realtor. Doyle was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Some highlights of his church service include a three-year mission to Finland, four decades of service in the Young Men's organization, and eleven years as a missionary at the LDS Conference Center in SLC (the first four years with Ann by his side until she passed away). Doyle is survived by his children: Cathy Hedgepeth, Carrie (Robert) Lindsay, Amy (Eric) Fairbourn, Mark (Rebecca Bath) Hedgepeth, and Lori (Jason) Forbush; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Glen Vincent, Steven Cottrell, Daniel Bierman, and Duane Marsala; sisters-in-law Deanna Babbitt Bierman and Carolee Bierman Marsala; and many nieces and nephews. Doyle was preceded in death by his eternal companion Ann, parents Edward and Gladys, brother Clifton Hedgepeth, sister Jetta Hedgepeth Vincent, sisters-in-law Judy Bierman Cottrell and Mildred Andreasen Hedgepeth. A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, July 21, 2016, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy (10600 S), South Jordan, Utah. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, July 22, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley with a viewing prior from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 E. 7800 S., Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
