Rudy Samuel Gonzales, Sr.

–

Salt Lake City, UT

Rudy Samuel Gonzales, Sr. passed away quietly on Saturday night, February 20, 2016, due to ongoing health issues. He was born in Fort Collins, CO to Ruben Gonzales and Ernestina Martinez Gonzales on July 5, 1947. Rudy will rejoin his father Ruben, mother Ernestina, older sisters Julia Martinez and Rachel Otero, baby sister Nancy Herrera and his second wife Sandra Montoya, in Heaven. He is survived by his first wife Joan Cozza and his third wife Teri L. Slater, his older sister Leah Foote, older brother Ruben Gonzales and his 9 children: Jason Cozza, Rudy David Gonzales, Marlo Durazo, Ryan Gonzales, Jade Gonzales, Rudy (Gina) Gonzales Jr, Tina Gonzales (Carlos Garcia), Kelli (Victor) Castro, Cole (Leah) Gonzales and his 19 grandchildren.

Rudy served 2 tours in Vietnam in the early 70's. He loved boxing, playing poker with friends (usually cheating with Teri while he did), watching his favorite shows on T.V. and always having a choice word or two for the actors on the T.V. if he disagreed with any of the actions taking place, and spending time with friends, family and especially his grandchildren. During his boxing tenure, he went on to win Intermountain AAU Novice in 1964, 2x Golden Glove champion in the late 60's and was also invited to the Pan Am games. Rudy was a bit of a tough person to get to open up but when he did, he was truly someone you wanted to be around. Father, brother, uncle and grandpa Rudy will be greatly missed by all that were in his life. Anyone that was not included in this obituary was not excluded on purpose.

Rudy, Sr. wished to be cremated, which will take place on February 24th 2016 at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Homes & Cremation Center (1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, UT 84095).
