Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Samuel Beckstead, age 85, passed away peacefully May 29th at his home with his family at his side.\n\nHe was born March 5, 1922 to Samuel E. and Delila G. Beckstead. Along with his sisters, Rosella Matthews, Dorris Beckstead, Wanda Brewer and Joyce Anderson, Sam was raised in Union and graduated from Jordan High School.\n\nSam married his sweetheart, LaRae Pons on October 10, 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy as a fighter pilot. While in the Navy he was known as “Super Sam” breaking all obstacle course records and then breaking his own record.\n\nSam started his own business, Bestway Products Co., in 1955. Although a difficult task, his hard work and determination built a successful business. Sam loved his work, was well respected in his industry, and developed many close relationships. He loved the outdoors, and when not working, he was hunting, camping, or fishing with his son and grandsons.\n\nHe is survived by his son, Marty (Deborah); daughters, Linda (Brent) Wenger and Shawna (Dave) Cummings; grandchildren, Cody, Casey, Jason (Keri) Wenger, Kristen (Kevin) Margetts, Shaun Killpack, and Gina Killpack; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Rebecca, Nathan, Dallas, and Shaunte.\n\nHe was preceded in death by his loving wife, LaRae; sisters, Dorris and Joyce. Sam will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and brother, as well as a friend to many.\n\nFuneral services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St., where friends and family may call Friday, June 1st from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.\n\nA special thanks to the Sunrise of Sandy and Alta Ridge Senior Living Center for their loving care.
