Shirley Curby Demas Everill, Our beautiful, beloved, wife, mother, mother-in-Law, grandmother and friend, returned to her Heavenly Father on April 2, 2017 at the age of 91. She was born, Shirley Gail Bates on August 27, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Christopher Bates and May Merrill Ringwood Bates. She was the youngest of four.
Shirley married Fred Curby and had one daughter, Patricia. They later divorced and she then met and fell in love with Gus Demas, who became her husband and father to Patricia. They had three more children- David, Shanan and Steven. They raised their family in Salt Lake City and spent a lot of time in Beaver camping and hunting throughout the years. In their mid fifties they bought a 2nd home in St. George, planning to retire there. Sadly, a few years later in 1983, Gus passed away from cancer. They were married for 37 years. A year later Shirley was sealed to him for time and all eternity in the Jordan River Temple. After a couple years she fell in love and married Richard 'Dick' Everill, gaining 4 step children. She was married to Dick for 31 years until her death. She was his best friend.
Shirley was the most beautiful, wonderful, cherished, wife and mother in the world and very beloved by her children who always called her "Muh-muh". She was always there for them being a stay at home mom and they knew they could count on her for everything. She was very talented with home decor and sewing and would help out at Gus' archery shop Pinecrest Archery, by painting the designs on the arrows Gus had made. Because of her love for animals she never hunted but was a competitive archer and held the Utah title of Women's Archery Champion for 3 years in a row in the late 1950's. She was very determined with everything she did to do her best and do it right! Many of these qualities were passed on to her children. When her children were grown and married, their spouses absolutely adored her as well, also calling her "Muh-muh". They loved her like their own mother. Shirley really was cherished by all her family.
At the age of 84, Shirley suffered a stroke which left her bedridden and unable to do the activities she loved and in the constant care of her children and her husband. After a couple years, Patricia became her full time caregiver and took amazing care of her making it possible for Shirley's family to spend more time with her in her last years and especially so that the younger great-grandchildren could have many years getting to know and love her. She loved spending time singing, coloring with and listening to her great-grandchildren's stories during these last years. She was so loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Shirley's four children Patricia, David, Steven, and Shanan will always be thankful for the most wonderful, loving, caring, and giving person their mother was. She taught them the values of life and their love for The Lord. They were the luckiest kids in the world to have her as their mom. She will be in their hearts always and forever. We love you Mom.
She is survived by her husband Richard Everill; children Patricia (Richard) Wissler, David (Jan) Demas, Shanan Hildenbrand and Steven (Karen) Demas, Launa Fackrell, Mark (Darla) Everill, Robin Hagan, Mike Everill; 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank all of the thoughtful Doctors, nurses and staff at Rocky Mountain Hospice and especially nurse Erica and CNA Rhonda who made weekly visits during the past year giving her wonderful care, whom Shirley really liked and appreciated. Also, thanks to Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary for all their kind help with these final preparations.
