Shirley Mang, age 86, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022 in Salt Lake City Utah. She passed peacefully surrounded by loving friends and family. Shirley was born on August 30, 1935 to Elliot Seymour Doane and Vera Manella Ward in Ogden, UT at the Dee Hospital and was preceded in death by siblings Dorothy Doane Goshen, Orville Elliot Doane.\n\nRaised in Ogden as the youngest of three, Shirley graduated in 1953 from Ogden High school and went on to graduate from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1957. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.\n\nShe married Wilfred John Mang on April 5th, 1957. They had three beautiful children, Geoffrey, Barry, and Annalisa. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Carly, Cassie, Colin and Riley Mang.\n\nShe quickly put her college degree to work as a school teacher, teaching 2nd Grade and then substituting while raising her children. The family started out in Arizona then moved to Florida and settled in Orange County, Ca. where she embarked on a career in diet and nutrition.\n\nAlways committed to her teaching roots she endeavored to help others achieve their goals in health and education.\n\nShirley divorced in 1988.\n\nShe went through the temple and took her endowments in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints temple in June of 1991.\n\nShirley moved back to Salt Lake City in 1995 for the duration of her life to be close to her sons and grandchildren who had made a home of the Salt Lake City valley.\n\nShe was a hard worker and fiercely independent while taking care of herself and her family despite struggling through the death of her eldest son and the father of her children.\n\nShirley was always supportive of her offspring when needed and continued to lend a helping hand to others even late in life.\n\nShe was given her sweet little dog Gracie by her daughter in law Suzy, in 1999. Gracie lived to be 16 years old. Gracie slept with her every night and was a great companion to Shirley.\n\nShirley touched many in life and was a symbol of perseverance.\n\nWhen Shirley was 82, she moved in with her grand niece Dannene Bone and her family of six to help Shirley with her growing needs.\n\nLater she was moved to an assisted care where she was the life of the party and had fun meeting friends, doing crafts, going on field trips and starting Sunday school and scripture study in her assisted living. She was well taken care of in her last years of life. Her friends and family and church members surrounded her in her last weeks and days of her passing.\n\nShe will be missed by many.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, we would like to put money towards Shirley‘s headstone. \n\nYou may get in contact with Dannene or Venmo her @Dannene-Bone \n\nGraveside services will be held June 7th at 11:00 am at the Ogden Cemetery.
