Born January 22, 1925 in Jerome, Idaho to Sidney Arthur Payne and Ogaretta Eastman. He married Thelma Green May 26, 1954. He was loved by his family and friends.\nSid was a West High School graduate. He served in WWII with the US Navy. He worked for Salt Lake Hardware and Steelco. He retired as a steel salesman on January 26, 1990. He was very athletic and enjoyed golfing, bowling, and fishing.\nSurvived by his loving wife of 50 years, Thelma; daughter, Patty (Ray) Ross; son, Dennis (Linda) Green; daughter-in-law, Chris Green; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, George and Dan. Preceded in death by his 1st wife, Norma Smith; son, Roger; father; mother; and 3 sisters.\nFuneral services will be held Friday, January 20, 2006 at 12 noon at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street, where friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to services on Friday. Interment Murray City Cemetery.\nThe family would like to express their appreciation to the U of U Medical Center staff for the care and compassion during this difficult time.\nIn lieu of flowers, donations to the Utah Diabetes Center, 615 Arapeen Drive, Suite#100, SLC, UT 84108, would be appreciated.
