She was 90.\r\n\r\nBorn June 10th, 1931 in Battambang, Cambodia to parents Lorth and Nghem, Soeung was full of life growing up in the backcountry of a wide open range of lush stretch of farmlands. Education was not a priority as she loved working the fields with her family on the farms. She found a great connection and profound respect for nature and all inanimates alike. A survivor of the Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot era, she was a woman of strength who had to raise her children and grandson mostly on her own when she became a widow. After many years in the refugee camps, she got sponsorship to America in the 1980’s, bringing along with her 5 children and 1 grandson. Here in the states - she openly welcomed and offered to raise many more grandchildren - she truly thrived and lived a fulfilling life and witnessed her children and grandchildren prosper, leaving a legacy of so much love and memories around her. She dearly loved spending time communing with nature outdoors and at the parks & zoos.\r\n\r\nShe will be remembered for her humor, stories of her history, utter respect and care towards everyone she met, and her generous smile have always left people with the lasting impact of her kind-heartedness. She made sure that all friends and family that visited her got fed, no questions asked. Some of the memories her grandchildren had of her were that she’d always say “I Love You”, if there were any family differences she’d always reminded everyone to reach out to resolve and stay connected, after visiting her she’d always sit at the window and wave goodbye, and again she’d always asked if you ate yet. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her adoring eternal children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Ultimately, she will always be remembered as the matriarch and the bond to all around her.\r\n\r\nThe family wishes to thank Jenkins-Soffe and director Justin Ford for their thoughtful service arrangements.
