A Glimpse of an Angel

Spencer Hoang-Linh Le Nguyen, 23, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his parents, brothers and sister on June 23, 2021 at 1:55PM in South Jordan, UT.

Spencer's effect on those around him was always apparent from the first moment you met him. Spencer loved people, he was always the friend to the friendless, a genuine person, with an infectious smile that seemed to include everyone. Spencer was a friend to all. Before enduring 2 years and 7 months of battling brain cancer, Spencer wore many hats.

Spencer was an entrepreneur, a singer, an actor, a natural born leader. One of Spencer’s favorite pastimes was singing Michael Buble songs and teaching himself piano. He auditioned and performed in 4 musicals throughout his time at Piedmont Hills High School. Spencer’s passion for singing began in 6th grade when he joined his school choir, later to join a traveling jazz choir as well as performing any chance he could at family events. While juggling being a normal student, Spencer was involved in his Class of 2016 leadership and enjoyed making connections with everyone in his class. His friendship was real, his caring spirit brought comfort to so many, he could make anyone feel included. Spencer was a beloved grandson, son, nephew, cousin and brother. His love for his family only grew more with every family trip or reunion. His favorite fact at school was saying “I have over 50 first cousins, and we’re all very close.” To his older cousins, Spencer was the sweetest soul and most gentle kid to be around. To his younger cousins, Spencer was pure magic. His favorite activities with the kids included scavenger hunts, handmade mazes and props, mystical “potions' ' allowing their imagination to soar. Spencer’s absolute favorite hobby was recording moments in our lives. He began vlogging for his Youtube channel in 2009, completing many vlogs through high school and his mission later in 2016.

In October 2016, Spencer was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hanoi, Vietnam. Excited and nervous, Spencer was eager to learn and experience more about his culture. He was fast-tracked from the MTC, staying only 6 weeks instead of 3 months. Spencer was diligent in his learning and embraced the few weeks he had left in the states. Spencer continued to spread his uncontrollable smile and laugh everywhere he went. He documented each transfer during his 22 months in Vietnam. To help his family at home, he sent video logs of his time in Vietnam, never complaining about the heat or torrential rain. Spencer taught english, helped build communities, and became a leader in every district. Spencer adored all the new faces and families on his mission, they truly fueled his drive to serve every day.
In October 2018, Spencer came home with a brain tumor and fought to overcome many obstacles he would face. In summary; two surgeries, months of physical therapy, and constant blood draws, Spencer never strayed from the fight. He was blessed with so many amazing doctors, nurses, aids, and a supportive family that stuck together through it all. During his fight, Spencer decided to enroll in BYU Pathways to study Business Marketing and completed two full semesters towards his degree. He enjoyed going to institute class and making friends along the way. He was always creative, using this skill to create ads for his family dry cleaners and scrapbooking any vacation he was able to take. Spencer’s positivity could light up the darkest room, beaming like sunshine. With a family of this size, he was never short of a ride or a companion during his doctor appointments. He truly appreciated everybody’s unconditional love. He is survived by 11 uncles, 9 aunts, 2 grandparents, over 50 cousins, 3 siblings and a dog named Sprinkle.
