Susan Frances Mueller Laird

Susan Frances Mueller Laird, age 78, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family and loved ones on July 30, 2016, following a valiant battle with lung cancer. Susan was born on June 30, 1938 in Erlangen, Germany, the youngest daughter of Maximillian and Helena Sponseil Mueller. She married the love of her life, William S. Laird, on May 8, 1964¬¬¬. They raised two daughters, Renate and Michele, and lived happily together for 32 years until Bill's death in 1996. Susan was a dedicated Army wife, living all over the U.S. as part of her husband's assignments with the military. Her favorite places included Colorado Springs, Colorado; El Paso, Texas; and her final home in Murray, Utah. She also traveled extensively, visiting family in Germany and vacationing with her husband and daughter in Hawaii.
Susan was a wonderful, beloved mother and grandmother. The joy of her life was creating a welcoming home environment and caring for family and friends. She enjoyed working in her yard and was known around the neighborhood as "the rose lady." She also loved to cook and bake, priding herself on making authentic German dishes and treats for her neighbors, especially at Christmas. She enjoyed frequent trips to Wendover, Nevada and to downtown Salt Lake City to eat at Siegfried's Delicatessen.
Susan is survived by her two daughters, Renate Womble and Michele Laird; son-in-law, Jess Womble; grandchildren, Jess Ryan and Kelsie Womble; and many good friends. Preceded in death by her husband, William; parents; and seven brothers and sisters.
A graveside memorial service will be held Friday, August 5, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Murray City Cemetary, 5490 South Vine Street (730 East). Guests are invited to attend a luncheon immediately following at the LDS Chapel, 6300 South 300 East in Murray.
The family would like to publicly thank the wonderful physicians, nurses and therapists at the Edwards Internal Medicine Clinic, Utah Cancer Specialists and Intermountain Homecare and Hospice.
