“Tom”
Thomas Boyd James died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 peacefully at home with his family around him. He was born January 28, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah to A. Boyd and Edith James. Married Kathie Cameron August 2, 1968 in Salt Lake City.
Tom was part of the first graduating class at Skyline High School and attended the University of Utah. He was a member of Utah National Guard Green Beret Jump School. Tom moved his family to Snyderville in the Park City area in 1974 to fulfill his dream to have horses in his back yard.
Tom was a trusted member of the Automobile Sales industry in Utah for over 35 years. He was a salesman and then a used car manager at L.H. Strong Volkswagen—then new car manager—and eventually, General Manager for Mike Hale Acura for 20 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Tom’s passion was anything to do with old cowboys and ranching. He was a cowboy at heart and loved old cowboy music and poetry. He also thoroughly enjoyed watching his son participate in team roping and his daughter in horse showing. His granddaughters are his pride and joy. He loved showing them his love of the outdoors and watching them become accomplished horse lovers. He built them a beautiful indoor arena so they could ride and enjoy their horses all year long.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Edith James; and grandparents, Al and Mary James. He is survived by his wife, Kathie James; son, Tommy James; daughter, Kami Buchanan (Scott); and his granddaughters, Bella, Baleigh, and Bridgette Buchanan. Also survived by his father, A. Boyd James; and sister, Connie Mae Gustin.
Special thanks to Audrey of Summit County Hospice for her special gentle attention and help, and also to Dr. Ross Morgan and his great team of nurses, and also to Dr. Noyce at the Huntsman Cancer Center.
