Thomas Alan Purdie

–

Taylorsville, UT

Thomas Alan Purdie, 72, passed away suddenly at home on February 15 as a result of heart failure.
Born March 17, 1944 in Salt Lake City to Neil Harry and Glenna Gallagher Purdie.

Tom served in the US Army as a helicopter mechanic during the Vietnam War. He married the love of his life, Cher, though the two later divorced. Tom was a TV and appliance repairman for many years before going on to work for Radio Free America and, most recently, at Intermountain Medical Center.

Tom enjoyed time spent fishing, loved a good bargain, and was always quick with a joke or to share an interesting fact. His generosity, as the type of person who would give the shirt off his back to a stranger, was evident in the joy he found while helping people, especially his neighbors – all while keeping his personal pain and loneliness private.

Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Reid; and his love, Cheryl Ellis. Survived by brothers, David (Cathy) and Scott (Debbie); as well as sisters: Cindy Purdie, Heidi Lopez, Sally (Rod) Dean, and Sue McDonald; and many nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Reese Wilde for being such good and long-time friend to Tom.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah where a visitation will also be held from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. Interment to immediately follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens.

Because Tom felt honored and a duty to serve the hungry and homeless, in lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Rescue Mission.
