(Trudie) Kainoa Taula Obituary (1964 - 2015)

Ms. La'ie While surrounded by her loved ones, Trudie Kainoa Lili'u Thompson Taula (Ms. La'ie) graduated from this earthly life after a valiant, courageous fight with a rare thymus cancer. Kainoa (Trudie) was born May 28, 1964 to Norman and Joanna Thompson in San Pedro, California (shhhh, don't tell anyone!). A short year later her family moved back "home" to La'ie, Hawai'i. She attended La'ie Elementary and graduated from Kahuku High School in 1982 (Red Raiders for life!). She later attended BYU-Hawai'i and BYU-Provo. Kainoa later moved to Utah where she met and married her eternal companion Philip Hanks Taula (Lover) in the La'ie Hawai'i Temple (the only true temple, haha!) on May 8, 1993. But her most prized possessions were her babies, Kaho'o, Jazmin, Maluhia, Hamana, and Nohea. Kainoa worked for Delta Airlines for over 20 years, retiring in 2008 while she fought and WON her battle with breast cancer. She later worked at Oquirrh Elementary where she loved working with both the students and teachers. Kainoa was a faithful and obedient member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served a mission in the London England Mission. This was one of her greatest blessings and would mold the rest of her life. She strived to be a missionary every day of her life and was a living example of the truthfulness of the gospel. She demonstrated her love of the gospel through service. Kainoa loved serving others and taught its importance in her home, often putting others before herself. She served in many church callings, including Sunday school teacher, chorister, Primary President, Young Women President, Stake Primary President, and Stake Young Women counselor. Many surrounded Kainoa, whether she was baking specialty cakes, playing ukulele, hula dancing/instructing, singing or creating music. Her amazing talents were always to serve others but especially, the Lord. She was a woman of service, driven by the love for others to share her Aloha. Kainoa's influence was felt wherever she went. She had an infectious love and spirit that made you want to be near her. Kainoa is loved by many and will live forever in our hearts. As she would say, "This is not goodbye but C'ya." She is survived by her husband Phillip Taula; children Kaho'olanakila, Jazmin, Leimaluhia, Hamana'oLai'ie, Kaiponoheaonakupuna; parents Norman and Joanna Thompson; siblings Lokelani, Norman Jr., Niel (Karen), and Tylo Thompson; endless nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, cousins and close friends. Proceeded in death by her sister Suka Thompson Chee, grandparents, a niece and a nephew. The family expresses deep gratitude to Inspiration Hospice. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30th at 11:00 am at the West Jordan Heritage Stake Center, 7336 S 3200 W, West Jordan, Utah. Viewings will be held at the same location Friday, May 29th from 6:00-9:00pm with a family viewing just prior to the funeral services from 9:00-10:30am. Interment West Jordan City Cemetery.
