Trygve "TJ" Skollingsberg Obituary (1946 - 2013)

Trygve (T.J.) passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 having lived twice as long as he expected and four times longer than doctors predicted. As exampled by the previous sentence, he excelled at everything to which he put his mind. He was a brilliant man. Some considered him so smart, they would include the term "aleck" or other three-lettered words not fit to print, when describing him. He was an irreverently complex man. He saw the world as few did, but if asked, he would deny all involvement. He loved to hear and tell jokes and riff on bad movies and football games. He was most proud of his three children, whom currently masquerade as productive members of society. He believed in trying everything once. He was married once, divorced once, and tried sushi once. He later buried the hatchet with his ex-wife and they remained close friends for years (the jury is still out on the sushi). He never suffered fools gladly, but never fooled sufferers either. He provided a serious version of his obituary for his family and friends who normally balked at his supposed inappropriateness. The text of which is included here, "I was born in Mysen, Norway on a winter's morning in December 14, 1946, to Johan and Dina Skollingsberg, the third in a family of five. Graduated Granite High School and Utah Technical College, as well as three cum laude B.S. degrees from the University of Utah. Proudly served for 6 years in the United States Coast Guard in various positions but enjoyed most being an Aviation Electronics Technician AT2, flying as Radioman/Navigator on Search and Rescue missions on amphibious aircraft off the coast of Alaska and in the Gulf of Mexico. We would fly as far out as Attu in the Aleutians and Campeche, Mexico on flights lasting 12 hours, rescuing downed air crews as well as fishermen. Honorably discharged but incurred a service-connected disability. I have been places and met people and seen things that I knew at the time were very unique. My life could have taken many turns, which would have changed it, but if I had, I would not have the three fabulous children I have today; Kristina, Kathrine and my dear son Kelly." The family would like to thank the Intermountain Health Care Hospital & Hospice staff who took exceptional care of him, especially Jamie, Leslie & Sean. Additionally, the family would like to profusely thank Dr. George Middleton Sr., whom always gave it to him straight. Casual memorial services will be Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street, Murray, UT. Per his request, no ties are to be worn.
