Tui Vi Satuala, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend returned to his Father in Heaven on the evening of Thursday, February 29, 2024 at the age of sixty-seven. He was the second oldest child of Pelenaise Faletau Satuala and Ului Lakepa Satuala from Tu’anuku, Vava’u, Tonga.
Tui had fond memories of being raised by his uncle, Tui Wolfgramm. He lived with his uncle until he was about 9 years old, when Tui Wolfgramm and his wife left to serve a religious mission, at which time, Tui Vi returned to live with his parents.
As a child, Tui loved animals and had a horse named Makafana. Tui enjoyed playing sports such as rugby, tennis, and boxing. He was well known for being a boxer and fighter in Tonga. He also had a love for music, faikava at the kalapu, and playing his guitar.
Tui graduated from Liahona High School in 1974. He served a service mission learning construction and electrical trade for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Tonga, Nukualofa mission for three years. During that time, he helped construct Saineha High School in Vava’u Tonga. Afterwards, he served another two-year proselyting mission for the Church.
His greatest joy was his family. Tui emigrated in 1981 and raised his family in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was married in the Salt Lake temple to Vika Susiane Havili (divorced) and they had 6 children: Ului Lakepa (Corin Holtry) Satuala, Siaki Fisi’ihoi Satuala, Nomani Ululani (Kate Bell) Satuala, Tui Vi (Kaohi Loo) Jr. Satuala, Kasanita (Paula) Ita’aehau, and Teau Imounga Satuala. Tui was very proud of his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He would talk to anyone who would listen to him about his children and grandchildren.
Tui worked independently for most of his career as a general contractor and tradesman.
He loved to be generous and enjoyed helping his extended family. Tui was very proud to help his extended family in providing support and assistance to a few of them to be able to emigrate to the United States. Through his assistance, many more families were blessed to be able to pursue the American dream.
Tui was one of nine children. His sibilings include: Fisi’ihoi Satuala (preceded in death), Kasanita (Anolo) Fotofili, Sione Esei (Kauiniata Tafolo) Satuala, Vasiti (Metai) Tu’imoala, Lisita (Ueini) Lomu, Kueni Satuala, Osika (Eva Mapa) Satuala, Kuliha’apai (Lavasi) Satuala, and Susitini (Pelenatita) Satuala.
He is survived by 16 grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Emrie Susiane Satuala, Faletau Rockner Satuala, Milika Kyliah Satuala, Lakepa Mox Satuala, Scotlyn Olivia Satuala, Jackson T Satuala, Cora Sugaluapea Satuala, Isikeli Vatau Satuala, Susiane Kate Satuala, Meli May Satuala, Aisake Tongaloa Ita’aehau, Asena Amelia Ita’aehau, Maka Uata Ita’aehau, Liliani Marie Ita’aehau, Leka Lukana Satuala, and newest grandchild, Tualau Tavete Tui Satuala.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to all those who have reached out to the family, and especially the caregivers at Rocky Mountain Care Riverton for their kind concern and treatment during his stay there.
