VALDON HUNT, 88, our beloved husband, Father, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 30, 2022 at home of causes incident to age. Valdon (Val) was born on July 20, 1934 in Park City, Utah to Elva A Lewis and Raymond Sylvester Hunt. He was the second child born to them, the oldest being a sister, Olive Rayola, who died in infancy. He was joined by younger brothers Radell Hunt and Ronald Lee Hunt.
The family moved to Salt Lake City in 1944 because Val was suffering from rheumatic fever. He graduated from West High School where he met the love of his life, Sabra LaVon Anderson, a stunning redhead, on a blind date. They were married on August 30, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. They began their life together in Salt Lake City and moved to Murray, Utah in June of 1961, where they raised their family of five children.
He was a lifelong and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities, including Bishopric Counselor and Bishop of his family ward and as a singles ward Bishopric counselor, home teacher, High Councilor and in leadership positions with the young men of his ward. His favorite calling was that of husband and father. Val had a deep, deep love for LaVon and each of his children and grandchildren. He was proud of every one of them and was interested in everything they did and what they accomplished. Val relished family get-togethers. He loved Christmas time most!
He set a tremendous example of faithfulness, love and goodness for his family and friends. Val enjoyed participating in and watching sports. He cheered loudly at every game his sons played or coached that he could attend, and enjoyed going to dance recitals of his daughters and granddaughters.
Val worked hard to support his family. He began working at age 14 for Safeway stores. He eventually managed several stores and, as a gregarious people person, enjoyed all the people he met and saw the good in them. He also worked for Albertsons, was self-employed, and worked as a salesman for chemical companies where he made many more friends. It seemed that almost every time we went somewhere as a family, Dad met someone he knew. He was enthusiastic, the life of the party, tender-hearted, generous, giving and grateful. He will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elva and Raymond Hunt, sister Olive Rayola Hunt, grandsons Timothy Val Hunt and Tony Roy Hunt and grandson-in-law Eric Wiseman. He is survived by brothers Radell (Kay) Hunt, Ronald Lee Hunt (Penny); his five children and their spouses: Debra (Stewart) Martinsen, David (Julie Littleford) Hunt, Scott (Tanya Waagen) Hunt, John (Rebecca Beecroft) Hunt, Suzanne (Shawn) Jacobs, 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 10:00 – 10:45 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse located at 6300 South 300 East, Murray, Utah. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
The interment will take place at Murray City Cemetery following the service.
