West Jordan, Utah
Valerie Loreen (Zoellner) Williams left this life peacefully on January 30th. After a long battle with dementia, she was watched over and comforted by her sister Cathy Bell and family. Valerie was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 27th, 1957.
Valerie was an amazing mother, hard worker and loving soul. She dedicated her life to raising children; not just her own but also those in her 15-year run of owning a center sized daycare. Valerie was an advocate for living life with health and wellness at its center. Before life with children, she dedicated her time to being a fitness figure competitor and high-level group fitness instructor which she stayed certified in for many years through out. Along side her late husband, Scott Wilson Williams, she helped build, operate and manage a windsurfing shop and instructing school in Salt Lake City, Utah as well as Corpus Christi, Texas. That is when their adventures began; birthing their first son Charles in Salt Lake City they then traveled south to Corpus Christi where their second son Max was born by midwifes during a labor that nearly took both their lives. This was the moment Valerie's faith in Jesus Christ and the church took root in her soul. After leaving Texas Valerie and Scott followed their dream of skiing to work for Burton Snowboards and moved to Rutland, Vermont where finally they had a daughter Cecilia. But their adventures didn't end here, betting on a big risk they decided to move their family west to Washington where they settled for a few years before deciding to move back to Scott's family origins in Saugatuck, MI. Where once again a daughter was born, Caroline.
She is survived by her children Charles David Williams, Max Ryder Williams, Cecilia Lee Williams and Caroline Elizabeth Williams; as well as her three siblings Cathy Ann Bell, Craig Harry Zoellner and Kyle Roger Zoellner as well as many nephews and nieces; Bo Cecala, Tyson Cecala, Camille Contrys, Cassandra (Contrys) Berger, Cheyenna (Contrys) Brule, Alix Zoellner and Konner Zoellner. Valerie also leaves behind her seven grandchildren: Tres Martinez, Elias Martinez, Charlize Martinez, Hazel Hanson, Harlo Hanson, David Williams and Nathan Williams.
She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted parents Carol Ann Zoellner and Harry Max Zoellner; her Grandparents Vernon Henry Clegg his wife Hazel Mary Ann Stoll Clegg, Gerhardt Max Zoellner and his wife Hedwig Klara Sadowski Zoellner; as well as her nephew Chris Zoellner. Scott Williams, her late husband of 23 years, also passed unexpectedly in March of 2025. Valerie was a graduate of Cottonwood High School in Murray, Utah. A city in which all four siblings were raised alongside their Mormon faith through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
If asked, one thing most would say about Valerie, is that she had strength. She was vivacious, always seeking out the next new adventure whether it be hiking, hang gliding, windsurfing, skiing, biking, or choreographing her next aerobics routine. Her hands were never idle, and her faith always held close to her heart. Valerie was always the light in the room; the laughter ringing throughout. She will be dearly missed by those she brought so much joy to. As her memory began to fade her hilarity never seized to exist; her way of seeing the silver lining never fading, her faith never faltering. Her family is rest assured that she is now at peace and now with her beloved parents; ripping turns in God's glorious afterlife, spreading love and laughter to all those left behind through the generations of children she birthed and through all the souls she loved. Those whose lives she brought light into even amongst the darkness. May she rest in peace.
