1/8/1939 ~ 12/21/2017
Vern Austin Christensen was born on January 8th 1939 in Rigby, Idaho and passed away December 21st 2017 in West Jordan, Utah. Vern was married on July 8th 1960 to his attentive, devoted wife, Barbara (Bobbie) Jean Norris. Vern was proud to say he was married for 57 years and frequently told many people. Bobbie passed away just 3 ½ months ago and he was heartbroken without her. The love and devotion he showed for his wife was a valuable lesson we will all treasure.
He worked as a machinist at EIMCO and retired from Kennecott. In his free time, Vern loved hunting, camping, fishing, playing softball and was an Eagle Scout. With his wife, he enjoyed many weekends in a bowling league and spontaneous road trips. The TV was usually on at their house playing old western movies, leading to many memorized lines. Many old model cars were displayed around their house due to Vern’s love of them.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Austin Christensen and Mildred Jennie Madsen, his brother Ronald Orin Christensen and his granddaughter, Mackenzie Allie Christensen. He is survived by six of his seven children: Peter (Renee), Rodger, Robert (Henryetta), Scott (passed away on October 27th 1965) Shauna (Mike), David and Chad (Kelli). They have eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the employees at Copper Ridge for their thoughtful, vigilant care of Vern the last 3 months of his life.
The memorial service will be held on December 27th 2017 at noon at Jenkins Soffe Funeral home. (4760 S. State Street Murray, Utah) A viewing will be held prior to the services at 10:30 am with the interment at Holladay Memorial Cemetery. (4900 S. Memory Lane in Holladay, Utah)
“I’ll meet you behind the new moon.”
