Vicky Dyson

–

Kearns, Utah

June 1, 1943 – August 18, 2026

Vicky Laws Dyson, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend passed away in a care center in Sandy, Utah, August 18, 2026, at the age of 83.

Vicky was born June 1, 1943, in Blanding, Utah, to Julian Asa Laws, Jr. and Marie Black Laws. She was the third child of this marriage. Her father was killed in a mining accident 3 weeks before she was born. The only father she ever knew was her step-father, Presley Arthur DuVall, who came into her life when she was 4 years old. She lived on a ranch just north of Cheyenne, Wyoming where she developed her love of horses. Her parents moved to Salt Lake City when she was 7 years old and moved into a house on 4th avenue. She attended East High School until her senior year when the family moved to a new home in the Millcreek area where she graduated from Granite High School.

Vicky served a mission in the North Central States Mission from 1965 – 1966. She later married Sid Carney in the Salt Lake Temple and they had 4 children. She later married Vanon William Dyson, Jr who passed away in 2003.
Vicky worked for 36 1/2 years for the Oil, Gas, and Mining division for the State of Utah.

Vicky had a great sense of humor and shared that with her children. She could tease you with a perfectly straight face, so you would never know if she was serious or not. As a result of this, there were a lot of jokes and laughter in our home.

Vicky loved spending time with her family. Her dad taught his children to play a card game called Liverpool Rummy. Any time there was a family gathering, especially in Blanding at the cabin, the card table would come out and the game would begin. When playing Liverpool Rummy became too difficult for her, we switched to Uno. She would play with anyone who wanted to play and played on a daily basis wearing out several decks of cards.

Vicky is survived by her children, Tina Marie, James aka Ivory (Sheryl), Michael, and Robert (Tisha) Carney, her brother, Kenneth (Mary) DuVall; her sister Rita DuVall; 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and her best friend David Farris.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vanon William Dyson, Jr; her parents, Julian Asa and Marie; her step-father Presley (Evelyn) DuVall; siblings Richard Dwight Laws, Theda Timmins, and 1 great grandchild Penelope.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Sandy Health and Rehab for the loving care and support they provided during the final years of her life.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Her favorite color was blue, so we would love if everyone wore something blue.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, 27 August 2026 at 10:00 am at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary located at 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah 84107. Her funeral will held directly following the viewing at 11:00 am. She will be interred in the Blanding City Cemetery.
