Vicky Yearby

–

South Jordan, Utah

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister Vicky Lynn (Hiatt) Yearby passed away May 28th, 2025 at her home in South Jordan, Utah.

Our mom, Vicky Lynn Hiatt, was born in Payson, Utah on April 5th, 1946 to Randall and Helen (Browne) Hiatt. Mom would share the story of her birth, marked by a broken bone resulting in her forever contending with her "chicken wing" of an arm.

Growing up on West Mountain, mom enjoyed a rural childhood with her 4 sisters and fostered friendships with children of her parent’s friends. These friends, we would come to know as her "Payson Gang" and they would share countless memories. Throughout their childhood, marriages, raising children they remained close and reconnected to be closer than ever in retirement.

Vicky graduated from Payson High School and then attended Snow College. Encouraged to study short hand by her mother Helen, Vicky was equipped to start her working career at Dugway Proving Grounds as a stenographer. This marked 30+ years of service as a Civil Servant for the Department of the Navy. Later transferring to Alliant Tek and ending her career as quality assurance specialist for the US Navy. She shipped missiles for a living.

Later, through work, she met our dad, Olin Wayne Yearby. After a brief courtship resulting in some memorable dating stories that involved some chicken and beans, our mom and dad married in November of 1967. They were married for 57 wonderful years. Our mom was happily married to Olin Yearby, with whom she shared countless adventures and cherished memories. Many of which consisted of travels. From road trips in the big green conversion style van, to exploring in a motor home that was a beast to park, or their many cruises. So many cruises in fact they achieved select status on Princess Cruise Line. Vicky was up for the adventure. She shared this love of beaches and getaways with her family and was a great sport to head to Orlando for a scorching hot Disney World Vacation, to hike the Minnetonka Cave during a Bear Lake getaway, or riding a donkey up a rock cliff in Haiti. All of which meant she lugged along her purse. The purse of all purses - which contained anything and everything except the kitchen sink.

Our mom was devoted to her children, sons Dustin and Drew. Family was at the center of her life and she reflected that raising her children. Mom was always supportive and there for her children throughout her life. Whether it be sitting on the front porch eating popsicles, making magical Christmas memories, or hustling us to all our sporting events her commitment to us never wavered.

In the later years, Vicky embraced a daughter-in-law, Rachel (Simons) Yearby as one of the family. And later jumped into the role of grandmother with both feet to Luke and Emma. Vicky was such a sport hosting sleepovers, building forts, and playing hide n seek. These were just some of granny special events. Being a mother and a grandmother were among our mom’s greatest joys, and she relished every moment spent with family.

Her warm spirit, love for laughter, and dedication to her family and career will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Mom's legacy of love, joy, and service will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.

Vicky Lynn (Hiatt) Yearby is preceded in death by husband, Olin Wayne Yearby ( March 12, 2025) and sister Shirlene (Hiatt) Howard.

She is survived by her son Dustin Yearby, son Drew Yearby, daughter-in-law Rachel (Simons) Yearby, grandson Luke Yearby, granddaughter Emma Yearby. Her sisters Gloria (Hiatt) Thatcher, Sharon (Hiatt) Briggs, and Debbie (Hiatt) Evans.

A celebration of life, and one more “time for cake” will be held on June 14th at 1524 Foliage Lane, South Jordan, Utah from 1:00-3:00 pm.
