Wanda Bernice Johnson McConnell Obituary (1916 - 2009)

Wanda Bernice Johnson McConnell, 92, passed away on Sunday August 2, 2009 in South Jordan, Utah. “Bernice” was born August 17, 1916 in Monroe, Utah to Niels Johnson and Maria Andreason. Bernice married Robert Lee McConnell on December 1, 1939 in Glendale, California. Bernice grew up on a farm in Monroe, Utah. She was the 13th of 14 children. She moved to Los Angeles, California to be with her sisters and was employed by Casey Stengel (famous baseball player). She loved dancing where she met the love of her life, Robert. Bernice was a very beautiful, hard working lady who loved to spend time with her family. She spent the majority of her life in Los Angeles. Bernice was employed by Lockheed Aircraft during World War II. In the 60’s, she worked for Lighting Specialties, designing plastic lamp shades. Her greatest accomplishment was being a homemaker and raising her two daughters. She was an active member of the PTA. She loved to sing, travel and write letters. She never forgot a birthday. Bernice loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. An incredible hostess and cook, you were always a welcome guest in her home. She was extremely happy, social and enjoyed her many friends. Bernice was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was president of her chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She resided and enjoyed her last three years at the Legacy Retirement Center. Bernice was extremely healthy until the day before her passing. She is survived by her daughter Susan Gosline, grandchildren Alisa (Troy) Orr, Don Gosline, Robin Kloes, and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her daughter Arlene Kloes, her parents and siblings. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009, 2:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy, (10600 So.) where a viewing will be held from 1:00 – 1:45 p.m. prior to services.
