White Darold Simmons returned to his heavenly home on Sunday, July 15, 2018. He was known by many different titles throughout his life; Son, Brother, Uncle, Lieutenant, Elder, Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Bishop, and Coach. He lived life like he coached with preparation, determination, hard work, and stern love. He was truly a giant among men and we love him and are grateful for his wonderful example. Darold was born in Beaver Dam, Utah on February 3, 1932 to Marvin and Aileen Simmons. He was their third of five children. He loved all kinds of sports and his greatest athletic accomplishment was playing football as a Guard at the University of Utah with his identical twin brother. He was honored to serve as a Pilot in the United States Air Force. After his career in the Air Force, Darold became a teacher and a coach at Box Elder High School, then Granite High School, and finally at Taylorsville High School. He loved the people he worked with and he especially loved his players. He was a light in many of their lives and taught them many valuable lessons. He loved to win, but he understood that there are more important things in this world. He loved His Savior, Jesus Christ, and was grateful for his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many capacities in the Church and was always an example of magnifying his calling. He always looked out for the widows in the neighborhood and made sure they were taken care of. His greatest love in this life was his sweetheart, Florene, and their love story has lasted for over 60 years and will continue into eternity. He loved his family and truly cared about each of them and their well-being. He was a wise man and his influence will live on. He is survived by his loving wife, Florene; all of his children: Dianne (Randy), Darene (Sheldon), John (Robin), Dana (Mike), and Jeff (Shannon); 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and his two brothers, Jake and Gerald. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his two sisters, Julia and Sherry. There will be a viewing in his honor on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State St., Murray, Utah.
