“Bill”\n\nWilliam (Bill) Henry Shand died on January 22, 2006 surrounded by his loving family.\n\nBill was born on January 27, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Louise Wonnacott Shand and David Shand. Bill grew up in Salt Lake attending East High School where he was the Senior Class President and captain of the football team (No. 32). After a brief stint at the University of Utah, Bill enlisted in the Navy at the outbreak of World War II. Proudly serving in the Pacific, Bill was discharged in 1945. \n\nBill met the love of life, Bernice (Pete) Peterson, who was his father’s nurse at the Salt Lake County Hospital. They were married April 17, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Married for 60 years, Bill and Pete lived in Murray and were blessed with three children. After selling his business, Polar Locker Storage, he worked for the Post Office before retiring and moving to Sun City West, Arizona to enjoy the sun and golf. Bill was at his happiest during those fun and sunny days with many good friends and lots of golf. \n\nBill’s quick humor, sparkling personalty, and engaging demeanor endeared him to all who knew him. He will be sorely missed.\n\nBill is survived by his wife, Bernice, and children, Bruce (Kathy) Shand, Kathy (Lynn) Carlson, and Karen (Chris) Reid, and grandchildren Dori, Nathan, Rebecca and Robert Shand and Kent (Tia), Dan and Craig Reid. \n\nThe family wishes to invite friends and family to a celebration of Bill’s life at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah 84107 on Thursday, January 26, 2006 between 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please drink a scotch in his memory. \n\nThe family wishes to thank the staff at the Wentworth at Cottonwood Heights for their loving care during his stay with them.\n\nMay his memory be eternal.
