William Wilford Thorup, Jr., our loving husband, father and grand-father, returned home to our Father in Heaven on 25 June 2011.\n\nWilliam (Bill) was a quiet man with a strong testimony. He was a role model to all who knew him. He lived with integrity and had great love and compassion for others. He was a generous man and opened his heart and home to others, many from foreign lands.\n\nHe served several missions, beginning with his mission to the East Central States Mission as a young man. In whatever calling he served, he gave his very best.\n\nBill was born 28 September 1927 to William Wilford Thorup and Esther Elizabeth Nordberg. He was the 9th child of 14, all of whom have gone on before him. From his home, he gained a great love of music that he has passed on to his children. He had a great love for gardening and the outdoors. Bill was known for his sense of humor and quick wit.\n\nBill was a post World War II Veteran. After his service and mission, He graduated from the University of Utah, with degrees in history and geology. But his learning never ended. He loved to study the sciences and the ancient languages of the Bible. He became a scholar in ancient Church History. Bill was a talented artist in drawing, painting, and sculpting. He was also a talented writer and wrote many poems and skits.\n\nBill was married to Sharon Fay Marx on 29 February 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. After getting married, Bill worked in different jobs to support his family, including being a teacher, a contractor and a letter carrier. He was a hard worker and many times would work a second job to support his large family. Bill had a great love for his family. Even with his busy schedule, he found time to help the family with school and scouting projects. Sharon passed away on 21 November 2004.\n\nOn 14 October 2006, Bill married Jeanne Thiriot Kendell. She has been a loving companion to him and they shared a love for miniature trains. We thank her for all her care with Dad.\n\nBill is survived by his wife, Jeanne Thorup and all of his nine children: Marjan Fairclough (Craig), Camille Miller (Brent), Karen Thorup, William Thorup III (Mary), Karl Thorup (Tina), Sydnee Peterson (Barry), Sharon Lee (Glenn), Paul Thorup (Patrice), Bruce Thorup (Adriana). He has 45 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.\n\nFuneral services will be held at the Riverview Ward Chapel, 4845 South Woodhaven Drive (1350 West) in Taylorsville, Utah on Wednesday, 29 June 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Viewings will be held Tuesday, 28 June 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, and one hour before the funeral at the Riverview Ward on Wednesday.
