Yuriko Okamoto Dennison Obituary (1937 - 2018)

Yuriko spent her last week of life at St. Joseph Villa Special Care & Hospice Center and she lost a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Yuriko was born July 19, 1937 in Kurashige, Japan (a suburb of Hiroshima). She came to America in 1958 as a governess to the children of a U.S. Navy captain and they traveled to many parts of the world. Yuriko arrived in Salt Lake City in 1963 and went to work at Interstate Brick, Mountain Fuel Supply, Questar Gas, Broadway Across America and Magic Space. She married Carl in the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple in 1981. They made many fun trips back to her hometown in Japan. Yuriko was an active member of the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple and the Buddhist Women’s Association (BWA). Yuriko was very skilled in needle arts and sewing and needlework of all kinds, making several suites and sport coats for her husband. She made over 100 crocheted shawls, poncho capes, and coats for family and friends. Yuriko is survived by her husband Carl, her brother Tatsuo, her sisters Mizuko and Lucy, and several nieces and nephews. The family is very grateful to Dr. Beverly Chang (IHC Memorial Clinic), St. Joseph Villa Nursing Staff and all the nurses and staff of Symbii Hospice Center for all the special care given to Yuriko. Yuriko will be cremated at Jenkins-Soffe Cremation Center. Remains will rest in the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple and also at her hometown Buddhist temple in Japan. Funeral services will be held at the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple, 211 West 100 South, Salt Lake City, Utah at 11:00 am on Friday, October 12, 2018. Family and friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.
