Yvonne Hayward

–

South Jordan, Utah

Yvonne Boehme Hayward passed away on December 16, 2024, in South Jordan, Utah at the age of 95. Yvonne was born on October 13, 1929 in Nounan, Idaho to Frederick Otto Christian Boehme and Retta Mae Thompson Boehme. She was the oldest of three daughters.

Yvonne spent her early life living on both a ranch and a farm. She remembered living in a large wall tent in Geneva, while her dad built their first home. She would tell us about having to sweep the dirt floor. Her family moved to Lincoln, Wyoming in 1939, staying there for a few years while her dad worked at a coal mine and then the family moved to Murray, Utah.

Yvonne graduated from Murray High School early and started attending the University of Utah at age 16. At age 19, she met Reid at a dance through a mutual friend. They got to know each other as they dated and he walked her to classes. Reid left to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii. They kept in touch through letters and at the end of his mission Yvonne flew to Hawaii where they were married on July 13, 1951 in the Laie Hawaii Temple. They lived in Kearns, Provo, Orem, Bountiful, Boise Idaho, Vancouver Washington, Midvale and South Jordan during their married life.

Yvonne worked as a legal secretary in her early life, spending most of her career as a High school business and English teacher. She continued her education earning certificates for the different states where she taught. She received a Master of Science in Teaching on August 11, 1977 from Portland State University.

Yvonne was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings throughout her life including Ward Relief Society President, Ward Young Women’s President, and as an ordinance worker for about 15 years in the Jordan River Temple.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and loved them dearly. She taught her family a love for life, and a love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through her faithful example.

Yvonne is survived by four children and spouses: Don and Brenda Hayward, Neal Hayward, RuthAnn and Marvin Reep, and Annette and Jeff Miles plus 19 grandchildren and spouses and 60 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren plus 2 on the way.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, her younger sisters, Myrtle Greenwell and Lettie who died as an infant, her daughter Nalani Sterr, her grandson Westley Sterr, and granddaughter Kaitlin Hayward.
